FEAR OF YAHUAH

"But I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that are unable to do any more. But I shall show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after killing, possesses authority to cast into GeHinnom. Yes, I say to you, fear Him!" Luke 12:4-5

And I shall give them one heart and one way, to fear Me all the days, for the good of them and of their children after them. And I shall make an everlasting covenant with them, that I do not turn back from doing good to them. And I shall put My fear in their hearts so as not to turn aside from Me. Jeremiah 32:39-40

Connection between the Fear of Yahuah and Obedience to His Torah (Instructions)

This scripture above found in Jeremiah is a promise from Yahuah to gather Israel from all the lands He has driven them to in His displeasure, wrath, and rage. This is due to the disobedience of His people (Israel), who did not walk in His Torah or listen to His voice. Yahuah promises to bring them back to their promised land where He will put His fear in their hearts so that they do not turn away from Yahuah for an everlasting covenant.

Fear of Yahuah is what causes us to walk in obedience to Him.

Notice the words: so as not to turn aside from Me.

*Please read all of Jeremiah 32 to understand the context*

To help understand what obedience is, let's take a look at 1 John 3:4 to see what scripture calls disobedience (sin). It says:

"Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness."

Lawlessness = without the Law (Torah/Instructions)

Sin is disobedience, and according to John, it is disobedience to the Instructions of Yahuah.

Disobedience- Failure or refusal to obey rules or someone in authority. {Oxford Dictionary}

Now that we have looked at what disobedience is, we can see that obedience would be obeying Yahuah's Instructions. *Read Deuteronomy 11 which also explains this*

To help confirm this connection, let's read the following scripture:

"Praise Yah! Blessed is the man, who fears Yahuah, Who has greatly delighted in His commands." Psalms 112:1

So, the man who fears Yahuah delights in His commands (Instructions), and is blessed!

Let's take a look at it from another angle...

Establish Your Word to Your servant, which leads to the Fear of You.

Psalms 119:38

Establish- Set up a system or set of rules on a firm or permanent basis. To institute something permanently by enactment or agreement. To make firm/stable. {Oxford Dictionary}

According to this scripture, if we establish (permanently institute) His Word (which includes Torah, Prophets, and Writings as well as Yahusha, who is The Word made flesh), it will lead to the Fear of Yahuah. Hopefully after seeing these scriptures you are starting to see the connection between Fearing Yahuah and Obeying His Commands.

One last example...

Yahuah asked to meet with Moses and the Israelites on Mount Sinai in order to establish His covenant with His people. The people were afraid and trembled because of the thunders, lightning flashes, voice of the shophar, and smoke on the mountain. They didn't want to draw near to Yahuah and told Moses to go and that they would do whatever Moses said to do.

Moses told the people, "Do not fear, for Elohim has come to prove you, and in order that His fear be before you, so that you do not sin." Exodus 20:20 *Please read chapter 19 and 20*

I encourage anyone willing, to dig into The Word and search for all the scriptures that talk about Fearing Yahuah and Obeying Him. It's a wonderful study and helps to understand the heart of our Heavenly Father and draw near to Him.

Below is a list of scriptures to help begin a deeper study on this topic "Fear of Yahuah".

I grouped them in two categories showing what happens with and without having the Fear of Yahuah. You could call it blessing and cursing or promises vs. consequences.

Consequences/Cursing/Without Fear of Yahuah

  • Let them then call on me, but I answer not; Let them seek me, but not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of Yahuah, They did not accept my counsel, they despised all my reproof, therefore let them eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsels. For the turning away of the simple kills them, and the complacency of fools destroys them. But whoever listens to me dwells safely, and is at ease from the dread of evil. Proverbs 1:28-33

  • But My people did not listen to My voice, and Israel would not submit to Me. So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, to walk in their own counsels. Psalms 81:11-12

  • Transgression speaks to the wrong within his heart; Fear of Elohim is not before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes, to find his crookedness to be hated. The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; he has ceased to be wise, to do good. He plots wickedness on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not despise evil. Psalms 36:1-4

  • If you do not guard to do all the Words of this Torah that are written in this book, to fear this esteemed and awesome Name, Yahuah your Elohim, then Yahuah shall bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues, great and lasting plagues, and grievous and lasting sicknesses. And He shall bring back on you all the diseases of Mitsrayim (Egypt), of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you, also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in the book of this Torah Yahuah does bring upon you until you are destroyed. Deuteronomy 28:58-61

I pray this short study has given you the desire and encouragement to study The Word of Yahuah in regards to this topic and allow the Set-Apart Spirit to be your Teacher who will lead you and guide you into ALL TRUTH.
